What the....something ate my bellflowers?

I don't see damage to anything else in the garden...and it's highly unlikely (although anything's possible) that someone cut them. I HAD a nice, full flowering clustered bellflower. Now, I have a few flowering stems and some leaves, but most of the full clusters are gone. It looks like a clean cut, like a rabbit or something snipped them neatly off near the base. Weirdest thing...Any ideas what might want to snack on my bellflower?

ps: clean cuts.. and refusal to eat.. is USUALLY rabbit ... you need to be out there.. stalking that whascly wabbit .. at dusk or dawn.. if you want to 'see' them ..

It's gone, so whatever did it, ate it or left with it. I'll get pics, it was a crazy day and the camera ended up elsewhere. I've seen rabbits about, although they usually stay a bit back from the Cottage because our dog would like to eat them...

Could be deer. Their habits change from year to year. This year eating my Serbian bellflower & hadn't touched it before. Moved out the roses, so they had to find a new muncher plant. I live in a clearing in the woods = their home, so I have to share, but I grumble. Better than crying though. I think...

We had problems with a groundhog one year and since then, as I've been growing our garden, I have avoided using any campanula, having read that it is a favorite food of groundhogs. (Of course, they really will eat many many things, lol) So, I guess you can take your pick, rabbit, deer, groundhog? :-)

Woodchucks LOVE bellflowers...and rabbits ate all of mine this year (unless it is a woodchuck I haven't seen...very possible because I lost all my delphiniums too.)

I never did get a chance to take a pic, because by the time I found the camera, whatever it was ate it to the ground. So...no bell flowers in my gardens I guess. I can't complain since that seemed to be the only thing of interest to whatever it was, but I am a little bummed because I really wanted some bell flowers. Oh well, nature wins this one.

I found the culprit...who moved on once the bellflowers were mowed down. A field mouse.

A mouse? I have to worry about plant eating mice in addition to all the other wildlife! Yikes.
