Viburnum crowding out astilbe

weekendweeder

All the plants in this corner came with our house. The viburnum pouted for the first two years, and then all of a sudden started flowering for us last year and this one. And it also grew a lot. The astilbe (Deutschland? It's the earliest bloomer in my garden) is getting crowded out and I want to move them elsewhere. Any suggestions for what to plant in its place? It's a south-facing bed that gets afternoon sun, but it's shady enough for the astilbe. I'm looking for something a bit shorter. Does not need to be white. I was thinking heuchera, but they are touch and go with me.

Thanks for any suggestions!
