All the plants in this corner came with our house. The viburnum pouted for the first two years, and then all of a sudden started flowering for us last year and this one. And it also grew a lot. The astilbe (Deutschland? It's the earliest bloomer in my garden) is getting crowded out and I want to move them elsewhere. Any suggestions for what to plant in its place? It's a south-facing bed that gets afternoon sun, but it's shady enough for the astilbe. I'm looking for something a bit shorter. Does not need to be white. I was thinking heuchera, but they are touch and go with me. Thanks for any suggestions!

Veronica 'Georgia Blue' will do well in this setting and spreads some, though not in a problematic way, so it will move outward as the Viburnum grows. Carex 'Ice Dance' will grow well here, but for some folks a bit too well. Lady's Mantle might work. Check to see if the height is more than you want.

Ooh! Veronica 'Georgia Blue' is pretty. Thanks for all the suggestions. Writing them all down for when I move and divide the astilbe next spring.
