Yes its a milkweed. Aesclepias currassavica or A tuberosa. I get them confused . My money is on the tuberose because of hardiness and your area.

And don't try to transplant it. It's nearly impossible.

I just succeeded in transplanting one. It was not as developed as the one pictured. I accidentally cut off part of the root, so was surprised that it made it. I watered it deeply every day, until it was clear it was going to survive, and protected it from the sun for the first couple of days.

It does grow very easily from seed. I Winter Sow them each January.

Can I place it in a pot until I transplant it in the fall?
