Penstemon... Huskers Red... or not?

So, I have 3 penstemon. I bought them all the same year, but not at the same time (ie different 'batches').

They're grouped. All the same height, started blooming about 3 days ago. 2 of them have green leaves and are blooming white... the other one is more burgundy foliage and orchid colored blooms. The 2 white/green ones are slightly shading the third, but like I said, they're all part of the same grouping.

Could the third plant be a different variety, or is a function of sun exposure?

Probably different...Ijust purchased Dark Towers (wine-colored leaves with lavender flowers) and Mystica (leaves aren't nearly as dark with pink flowers). Aren't they beautiful in bloom!

Here is a link that might be useful: Mystica

The bugandy (red) leaves are what gives the cultivar its name and the flowers can have a slight pinkish tone, though white is more common. I'd say that one of yours is closer to the true cultivar. That said, I've seen plants sold with leaves in all sorts of varying degrees of red right up to just plain green.

It's a seed strain so it varies somewhat. If you see one you like, it's easy to root cuttings of that one too.

Now I'm kinda wondering if I have 1 Dark Towers and 2 Husker Red. It certainly makes sense, given the differences. hmmmmmm
