| Hello there!
Been reading and learning from everyone here over the past few months but first time posting - Three weeks ago I bought two Pulmonaria Bertram Anderson from Bluestone Perennials. I planted them in mostly shade under a tree (but not close enough for tree roots to be in the way) in clay soil, as suggested by their website, ammended with some peat moss and gardening soil. The plants get about three hours of morning sun but that is about it. However, every since they have been in the ground, both of them have been wilting. I had made a mistake of planting them in the coconut husk pots they came in and after a week, I removed them and planted them right into the soil. They have been getting an inch of water weekly and yet I see no difference. They are not turning brown, just keep wilting. I understand that is now June so I want to traumatize these plants as little as possible but I cannot figure out my next step - do I need to move them to full shade with no sun at all? Do I do something with the soil? Do I cut them back? Or do I just let them wilt? I am not at all familiar with them and am out of ideas! Anyone willing to help? |
Follow-Up Postings:

| Give them some time. My pulmonaria get a good deal of morning sun, then afternoon shade. They don't really want full shade. |

| What did the root balls look like when you removed the coconut pots? Were they root bound? |

| do they NEED an inch of water a week in clay soil.. water them when they need water ... they have only been there.. one week.. since the last dig up ... it does not surprise me that they have not yet stabilized ... that the roots can pump enough water for the plant in late june .. but dont kill them with too much love.. water when they need water.. insert finger and find out.. no guessing ... btw .. do they recover at night.. and look ok in the morn.. only to wilt after the heat of the day.. if so.. see above... ken ps: next time .. mail order about a month earlier.. and w/o the heat.. they wont have as much shock ... |

| They were pretty small when they came in and their root balls look decent (I seperated some of the roots out before I planted.) I will ease on the watering and watch and observe. Thank you for the advice! |
