Pennisetum Moudry and Misc. Strictus- Picky about DivisionTiming?

We grow alot of ornamental grasses and so we divide alot of them, mostly to pot up and sell. The only one we seem to have repeated problems with-is Moudry.(Our Hameln seems to have disappeared, sigh, and we have lost Little Bunny 2 yrs running, but our Moudry has long been prolific and hunka.) The Moudry we divided in the cool of early June- many of them shrivelled and 50-100% gave up the ghost. And then I remembered the same thing happening in the last 3 yrs. (I'm comparing it mostly to various miscanthus and oat grass) We also could have under or overwatered it or kept the pots in too much shade.

And also, has anyone had luck dividing Misc Strictus when it's end of June and 5'H? In the past we have only divided Miscanthus in the e. summer when it starts to show growth. (And this year, we are 2-3 wks ahead of a normal June for us here in Boston area z.5-6.) Thx for your help.
