| I'd given up on two of the supposedly tender perennials I've had for years (Mirabilis longiflora and Amorphophallus konjac) when they failed to emerge by their usual start date (around mid-May), even though we had a mild winter.
By early June I thought M. longiflora was toast, but when I was planting something else nearby I sliced through a good chunk of its tuber and it was firm and viable-appearing. Within a week the first sprouts began appearing (it seems to respond to tuber damage with vigorous growth) and it's now almost a couple feet tall and wide. The Amorphophallus konjac just started sending up its disgusting fleshy finger-like sprouts a few days ago and there are now about seven of them, resembling a zombie graveyard. Hopefully it will flower again this year, attracting flies with its carrion-scented blooms. Any unexpectedly late-arriving perennials in your garden this year? |

| No late arriving perennials, but the deciduous hollies just now finished blooming! |

| Balloon flower is always a late riser for me, but this year was ridiculous. It just now started showing anything. |
