It's been a long time since I've grown Oriental Poppies and when I did, they didn't last long in my garden because I hated the way the flowers flopped. They became compost material after a couple of years. Well, once again, I'm taking another look and thinking maybe I should try some of the shorter varieties - 18 - 24 inches. Are they more resistant to the flop? Are they really that short? Any particular varieties you think are outstanding? Kevin

I've been eying Dwarf Allegro on swallowtail garden seeds but that only gets to be 6 inches according to their site. I had iceland poppies (champagne mix) last year and they were about that height and amazing looking. But, they died in the heat we had last year (which I was hoping was them going dormant but it never came back) sad day

I too had an icelandic poppy that I purchased in a 4 inch pot in the spring. I enjoyed the blooms while it bloomed and when it finished blooming and disappeared, I thought - hoped!-that it was going dormant from the awful heat we had all of June last year. Unfortunately, it never returned this spring. My plant had yellow flowers that resembled tissue paper flowers that bloomed at about 10 inches high. I loved it and have managed to get some Icelandic Poppy seeds from a trade that are from Swallowtail Garden Seeds. The seeds are called Meadow Pastels and I hope to winter sow them this year. Linda

david - I checked the Dwarf Allegro and according to what I found the flowers are 6 inches across, but the plant grows from 16-20 inches tall. It's a pretty color though. Kevin

there are many non-flopping oriental poppies developed here in Europe in recent years. They are beautiful, but the blooming season is shorter than anything else, so I regret I bought so many. All from Paris-series are non-flopping(a.o. Place Pigalle, Clochard), Karine and others.
