Whats going on with my Asters?

ATekk

So I had great success with my Asters and Boltonia Snowbanks this year. Started out with 3 Woods Blue, 3 Harrington S and 6 Snowbanks last year from Bluestones May sale and this year I HAD TO divide everything up into easily 20+ plants of each kind.

Most are doing very well, some got some rust when we had some nonstop rain early this year, and then there is a small grouping I put together of Snowbank and Harrington S that look like this:

What could be causing this? I have never seen this happen before. All the leaves are intact but the areas that I pinched never really came back properly. All the leaves and trunk are very stiff and rigid. This little grouping in the yard is the only area out of all the plants that look like this. For comparison, this is another Harrington S that is a mere 4 feet away unaffected.

Thanks for your help!
