Clay Garden July 1 photos

This is my Clay Garden which is hard sun baked clay. Total rainfall in June was 0.50 inches with zero watering. I do think that get some mist at night from the golf course watering. Not like the Butterfly Garden that get's it every night.

Had some problems with the red daylilies. First year I have ever had problems. The big yellow ones right next to them are fine.

Butterfly garden is in the back. You can see the golf course watering area.

What surprised me are the Shasta Daisy's. WHAT?? They have never grown THAT big before. They are over a foot taller this year.

This are Moonbeam Coreposis in the middle. The Catmint and Speedwell came in about a month early this year which really blew the timing of the garden. The other flowers are about 2 weeks early. My Butterfly Garden (with the good dirt) is only about a week ahead so the later summer plants seem to be about on time. (I have abloom time spread sheet - was a tip in Garden Gate a few months ago).

I need to have a cloudy day for better photos that don't blow out the white daisies . . . before the Japanese Beetles eat them :-(

I should post some shots of our rock wall, it's done now but this was a great year.

Did you say the middle plant is Moonbeam coreopsis? I have never known Moonbeam to have an orange center and if I'm not mistaken Moonbeam usually has a soft yellow flower. I grow the Zagreb and it is a darker shade of yellow than the Moonbeam I've seen. What are the names of the beautiful red daylilies? Which coneflowers are those? Are they PowWow Berry or Kim's knee highs? What about the shasta variety? Great job growing in clay soil! Maybe they are not only getting watered by the misters from the golf course but may be being fertlized by the golf course too. Aren't most golf courses kept nice and green?

Those coreopsis have always made me wonder. The tag said Moonbeam but I do not believe they are as Zagreb are more commonly purchased around here. Also arn't Moonbeam a more dainty yellow? softer?

The orange center is probably do to the Shasta Daisy really blowing out the sensors on the camera and compensating.

Let me look for the tags on the cone flowers and Shastas - the daylilies are an unknown. We grabed them before we moved. My wife's grandmother was the grand pooba of a daylillie organization and had fields and fields of different ones. However they do seem common around southern Wisconsin.

Just lovely! I've been wondering about my Shasta's too. they're close to 5 feet tall this year - usually only 3-4 ft. Maybe it was the mild winter and early Spring?
