 o
Veronica spicata 'Icicle' flop or not

I put this one in last year,so this is the first year I can start the evaluation process.

First I love the contrast between the white flowers and dark green foliage. Also it's been a long and heavy bloomer so far.

However

It's been kind of a flopper. In fact, it looks like someone dropped a basketball right in the center. In other words it flops from the center out. The stems don't fall totally on the ground, but then again I plant kind of close, so other plants may be holding the stems more upright.

It's planted in almost full sun, but I could probably find a spot in complete full sun if that would help. The Helenium right next to it aren't flopping and I would think they would flop if the spot isn't sunny enough.

Or maybe it needs to be cut back early in the season before it blooms to reduce its height? Thoughts?

Kevin

Put grow-through grids in place when new growth is emerging in the spring - the foliage will hide the grids, and they do a great job at supporting :0)

Here is a link that might be useful: Like these - but I'm you can find locally at hardware stores, nurseries, etc.

I have some plants that are floppers that I think I may have to use those grids on next year, if I remember to get some before they grow too tall, and flop!
