Rudbeckia hirta Goldilocks

centers should turn brown in a couple of days.

Well, I will keep an eye on it to see if the centers turn dark. I didn't knowingly plant Goldilocks but with seed exchanges, anything can happen. I didn't see any information online about Goldilocks starting out with a green center.

This is just my opinion, but since my Goldilocks has the dark eyes from the get-go...

I think this is a cross of Goldilocks and Rudbeckia "Irish Eyes." If the eyes of yours don't turn brown, then it's for sure not Goldilocks. All of mine have the brown eye in the middle and I've not seen one yet with green like this.

Last year, I had Irish Eyes, Prairie Sun, Becky, and Maya, among others, but I did not have Goldilocks. Thanks for providing your experience with Goldilocks. I am guessing a cross between Maya and one of the green-eyes. I want to name it Leprechaun, because it is short and has green eyes, LOL, but I want to be sure it is a cross and not something that already exists.

I bet you're correct. That "Maya" is a dwarf double. That would explain why your new one is so short. I have "Goldilocks" blooming now and love it. Is "Maya" a seed variety? I'd like to try that one next year. These double Rudbeckias are just phenomenal to me. They are the prettiest things in the garden. I have had so many people ask me where I got them. I, of course, tell them about winter sowing. LOL.

"Maya" is a seed variety and the blooms are very pretty. It is an annual, though, as mine did not return. I thought "Becky" would be an annual, too, but it either came back or it reseeded. I need to get more seeds for "Maya," and I am also going to see if I have any left that I collected. Planting the collected ones might produce another interesting cross.
