Mine never flopped and it was very lovely. It was the only Stokes I've ever had, and from its habit I never would have thought they tended to flop - it was THAT upright! Unfortunately, I think I had it in a place of too much moisture in spring, and it only lasted 2 years. Very long blooming...as dry as it's been here I've been thinking about trying it again...

I prefer Klaus Jelitto, the blooms are larger and I very much like the color. It doesn't get floppy for me but admittedly the foliage isn't front of the border foliage...

This is an old thread but thought I'd add my experience regarding Peachie's Pick. Lovely evergreen plants in my 8a/7b zone that bloom on strong stems. I do grow them in pots or raised beds.

In one pot where I removed a large Peachie's Pick, I recently noticed, at the cut end of each root still extending into the potting soil, a new plant growing. If you've ever dug up one of these plants, you know how many thick roots extend out into the soil. I just cut all around the plant with a small shovel, lifted out the plant, leaving the cut off roots extending into the soil. I didn't fill in the hole where the plant had been growing. While cleaning up the pots on the deck, I removed some tree leaves that had fallen and gathered in the hole where the plant had been growing and lo and behold, a tiny plant is growing on the end of each exposed root! There must be 50 tiny plants developing in that small area. I'm going to try moving a couple of tiny plants to individual pots and see how they do.

I think for any stokesia that they need to be divided every couple of years for them to do well and live longer.

Even though it's an old post, I am glad to see it. I haven't grown stokesia yet, but have seeds germinating. This is great info! Thanks.
