Butterfly Bush - Buddleia davidii??

My Butterfly bush/tree is growing very nicely and producing a lot of flowers, as it usually does every years, however, this year, I am seeing a lot of yellowing leaves on my bush, especially on the lower branches. At first I thought it was due to the birds jumping up and down a lot on the branches; I have a birdhouse directly beside it with a clematis growing up the post and surrounding the birdhouse and a little bit of the top branches of the butterfly bush, but that never seemed to bother it before.

I know it's been extremely hot this summer but it's gone through this in past years too. I remember reading somewhere that Buddleia davidii doesn't require a lot of watering but I have been watering it a lot these past few days because of the heat wave. Does anyone know what may be causing the leaves to turn yellow?
