Shasta leaves turning yellow/brown.

I planted 3 shasta daisy clumps (7a) in the spring and all 3 blossomed beautifully before I deadheaded. Recently one of the clumps has started browning at the base and the stalks are turning yellow. The other 2 are dark green and lovely and all 3 have been watered the same. Anyone ideas what the issue could be?

Nope, I haven't used anything on my lawn or near the flowers at all except neem oil. The last time I fertilized was when I planted them in May I think.

Looks like maybe that cement edge material could be reflecting additional heat, and your first year plant does not tolerate that well.

that's been happening to random stems on mine.... check the very bottom of the stem for rot. I have no idea what causes it regardless.

It does look a little but like rot; that's what I was worried about :( It looked even worse today (2 days after this pic was taken), so I cut off the dead/dying stems to the base, removed the dead leaves, and gave it a little fertilizer. I guess we'll see what happens with it.

What's the soil like in this bed? Is it heavier with some clay, or looser with some silt or sand? That could be a clue if it is rot or lack of nutrients. I have some plants that yellow in my loose fast draining soil if it rains a lot here. then I hit them with a dose of iron chelate and they green back up. If a plant is rotting at the roots then more fertilizer won't necessarily hurt, but the plant has no way to take it up so it could be all for naught. But it is the new growth that shows the yellowing. I would hold back on the water for this one if you can. Maybe it is closer to the head of the lawn sprinkler head and so gets more water than the others? Just an idea. My shastas are just starting.

And please, do NOT fertilize a potentially sick plant. It doesn't help and may make the situation worse. Fertilizer is not a magic cure. It really isn't. Kevin
