purslane

I was at the Farmers' Market this morning when I saw Purslane for sale for $4 a pound.

It looks exactly like the weeds I've been pulling out of my garden.

Do you think it would be safe to eat the "weed" in my garden, or could it be like mushrooms---where you really have to know what you are getting?

Thanks!

Should have checked google in the first place. Thanks for the suggestion.

I used corn gluten on the lawn this year for crabgrass. That's it.

I can't imagine that purslane that grows in the lawn would get very big. But the ones that grow in the veggie garden can get huge. Very healthy--high in Omega 3s.

Purslane is an uneradicated "weed" in my garden just because of its edible value. I had no idea what it was, but once it was ID'd for me and I had read info on it I decided to let it stay and feed us. Now it really is everywhere in the garden and has become both weed and food! No wonder you hate it if you don't eat it. Time to start eating lots more purslane!
