 o
Geranium "Dark Reiter" anyone?

I came across this plant today that I just had to have. I wanted to share with other geraniums lovers, as this one is so different....and I couldn't pass it up.

It states full sun but I have my doubts due to its dark purple foliage, so I will plant in part sun.

Wondering if anyone has this plant and how it performs for you. Also do you have it in full sun?

Here is a pic I copied from the web...

I have Midnight Reiter which I assume is a parent to Dark Reiter and looks quite similar. I love its foliage which keeps its color well through the summer. Mine is in the sun until about 2 pm( East exposure). I find it less attractive when it flowers, just how they are held above the foliage isn't to my liking but I can ignore that. Dark Reiter's flowers certainly may have a different habit. I've heard these plants can have issues with mildew with flowering but it's never been an issue in my garden. Enjoy your new cranesbill!

Thanks Debbie.

I do have to wonder if these plants are one in the same...with different names? Googling them brought up several of the same pics.....

I have a couple of 'Dark Reiter' which get sun at this time of year from first thing in the morning until midafternoon, which technically is full sun, though it isn't all day. Their late afternoon shade is fairly bright. They are doing just fine, and IME most dark-foliaged plants need a goodly amount of sun in order to get rich color, though that may not be true of all of them.

Thanks Babs, I'm wanting to plant it on the west side (but on a slope), so it
gets late dappled sun...

I'm hoping it will be happy there :)

I was curious so I did a bit of googling. Not surprisingly, Midnight Reiter is a parent of Dark Reiter. The difference appears to be that Dark Reiter's leaves initially emerge a light maroon color.

Either way, very pretty plant.

Interesting...thank you!
