 o
Echinacea Double Decker ?

I finally had to post & ask ~ it is 7/7/11 after waiting & waiting for the top deck of my P Cone tag-claimed *Echinacea purpurea ~ Double Decker* it is just now sprouting tinee-tiny & very few signs of creamy looking sticks from the center of her crown & only on a few quite mature nearly splaying down petals. Is this to be expected in my zone?

She is indeed healthy, impressively & beautifully statured clump w/ larger blooms (I planted in Jul '10 ~ away from the sites of other P Cones). I counted & she has so far produced 30 blooms & buds in different stages at this point that started just over a week ago ~ w/ lots of young sprouts around her feet.

Am I just being impatient? TIA for your response!

They are suppose to take a few years.. did you do them from seed?

Even the Double deckers that I see in gallon pots aren't consistent in form.

Thank you for responding. I planted her last Jul 2010 from a 1 gal pot & she produced all her blooms w/ beautiful crown on top. All of my Echinacea Purpura were planted 10 years ago from a seed packet & they have multiplied ~ altho beautiful are not as thick & heavy caned as *Double Decker* I'll give it a little more time to see what comes of those tiny creamy looking sprout on top of her center. I'll report back if they turn out to be crown-decks.

Thanks again!

Hi n-m44 ~ Those tiny creamy sticks did turn out to be the crown! There are 3 blooms now with definite crowns! I was just being impatient ~ didn't expect the crowns to take so much longer to show up! I'm so tickled!!!

Can anyone tell me why this happened this season? I haven't yet seen DD in this corner DD P-Cone bed except a tiny forest growing on top of all green blossoms she produced! Sigh!!!
