Artemisia Powis Castle questions

| I just bought a quart sized version of this. I'm debating where to put it. I have in mind a full sun location in the front yard, next to the driveway where it gets pretty hot. I wanted something for contrast with a lot of Obsidian Heuchera. I had bought Beach Wormwood already, which is okay, except that it can't be seen from a distance, bring so prostrate. I know that Powis Castle has significantly greater height and spread.
Several sites mentioned tipping or shearing back, for example, one says, "If plants get leggy and open up in summer, cut back by a half to a third." Which makes me think that maybe it would respond well to attempts to keep it smaller.
Has anyone done this?

No but I'll be interested in the answer. I've had artemesia/silver mound for donkey's years and it always flops open in mid-summer. I have it in part sun but even when I was growing it in more sun it still flopped. I think I'm going right out and give it a haircut and if it doesn't grow back, I'll know for next year to leave it alone.

I gave up on Silver Mound years ago because it flopped. I was told (on here) that Powis Castle has a better form.

It didn't for me. I finally figured out that these artemisias do not like humidity, rain, rich soils. I slowly got rid of all of them, pretty as they are in the right spot in the right climate.

Much as I'd like the color, it wouldn't work in my main bed, which holds moisture. But this location might be hot/dry enough for it. For $3 I figured it was worth a shot.

I love this plant. It does need pretty good drainage, but it's also tough. In early spring, I cut it back very hard, down to hard wood near the base, leaving maybe 6-8 inches. I sometimes root cuttings as well, using only the previous years growth. It never splays open, but it does make a plant much larger than the old Silver Mound. My old Powys Castle plants are at least 2x2 and maybe larger.

ditto what laceyvail said. I treat it like a butterfly bush and other sub-shrubs. Cut it back to the base in the spring just when new growth is evident. Also, where I am it is only borderline perennial. It doesn't always come back depending on the winter. I think it is a zone 6 or 7 plant. But if I have to buy a new one at a box store in a 4" pot the next spring, no big deal. It grows so fast, it is worth it. I usually get 2 or 3 years. Mine is also in a spot that is very well draining and nearly full sun.
