daphne odora alba

White winter daphne. I had a regular pink daphne odora which grew happily in our garden for 30 years, despite all that I read saying they were very difficult and rarely lasted more than 3 years.

Ours finally died (can't blame the plant - we had planted it in a half wine barrel, which eventually disintegrated and fell over, uprooting the plant, and we didn't notice for a while...). Anyway, my DH wants to replace it with a white one. Problem is, I found 2 nearby nurseries which have the normal pink one in stock, but no one has the white one.

So, I have two questions I hope someone can help me with:

1) Is there something weird or more difficult about the white version that would make it hard to find (or to grow)?

2) Does anyone have any idea of a mail order nursery I could order it from?

Thanks so much for your help - I grow a lot of antique roses, but have only grown that one daphne in my life.

Jackie
