Two-for-one buddleia??

This spring I purchased a butterfly bush for the garden. The blossoms were supposed to be pink so you can imagine my surprise when some of them turned out to be pink and some of them were violet. At first I thought I had a rare specimen but then I concluded that--unknown to the grower--there must have been two plants growing in the same container.

My question is this: do you think the two shrubs will happily coexist in the future if they receive adequate moisture and nutrients? I assume the stems and root systems are so intertwined it would be impossible to separate them.

i found them very short lived in z5 MI .. so i would NOT mess with success ... and go digging them up ...

and by short lived.. i mean a few years.. until the one bad winter ...

they are.. most likely.. irrelevant to each other.. so do nothing different than you would for one.. do NOT double fert for example ...

i think one of mine was killed.. by a very mild MI winter .... and late fert'g.. and it did not harden off properly before the reality of a MI winter set in ... and then repeated freeze/thaw.. killed it ...

A few years ago some catalog/online grower sold "tricolored" BB bushes-that were actually 3 bushes grown every close together. I imagine that they should be fine.

Just keep an eye on the violet one. It may be a seedling that sprouted alongside the pink and might grow taller and more vigorously than the pink one, eventually crowding it out. Most of the run of the mill buddleia seedlings are that violet color. Still a good two for one deal though!
