Dianthus Bloom Period - Spring or Summer? (pic)

A little over a month ago, I purchased a Bath's Pink Dianthus from the "clearance" table at my local nursery. According to the ID tag, it's supposed to bloom in the spring. I figured I had missed out on the pretty pink flowers so I put it in a container to wait til next season. But yesterday, a few days after fertilizing it for only the second time since I purchased it, I noticed it has started to bloom (see pic below). Have I unknowingly "forced" it? The fertilizer I used calls for 1/2 tsp per gallon and has a ratio of 24-8-16, should I be using something with lower numbers?

Thanks in Advance
