Question about Double Canterbury bells

I grew some double Canterbury bells from Thompson and Morgan seed a few years ago. They cross and reseed and this year one of the plants has like eight layers of petals. Is this common for campanulas?

ps: within the realm of genetics.. most anything is 'possible' ... not much is 'rare'.. but how do we define 'common' ... is it once in a blue moon.. or twice ... lol ...
