Agapanthus Storm Cloud

This is the third (I think) year in the ground for me and I'm very surprised that it not only came back, but bloomed. We had one of the longest and coldest winters I can remember here in Zone 8. And we are now having one of the hottest and driest summers I can remember in a good while. At any rate this particular agapanthus seems to be a little hardier than I expected....too bad it blooms when it's so miserable outside.

That is gorgeous. Tell me. Where is this planted? Full sun, part shade, or full shade? I have had Ellamae in full sun for several years and it has never thrived. There is conflicting info on this plant's preferences on the internet.

RE: Agapanthus Storm Cloud

I have it in 2 places in my yard..both have been there 3 years. They each get sun until around 2:00. Both are in good, but not fabulous soil. I had Ellamae for several years also...the only time it ever bloomed was when I bought it. Storm Cloud is a much better performer (for me) in the southeast. I have other agapanthus, but this is by far the most showy. I have not had very much luck with them in full sun, however. They seem to prefer part sun or dappled shade. I also have found they do better with fertilization, even though my sister says they are not heavy feeders at all in California (where she lives).
