I feel like these are super popular in 2013

I'm seeing these everywhere this year and I've never noticed them previously. What are they and have you seen them around?

Ps sorry the picture is dark, it was dusk.

It could be a type of Yucca plant, although the flowers on that one are a lot prettier than I'm used to seeing.

anthericum liliago or one of the ornithogalums?

I can't tell for sure, but it looks a little like a camassia. What colour are the flowers and how tall are the plants? Are you seeing them now or did you take this picture earlier in the season?

my camassia are all over (and a much creamier colour). One of the squill family?

They are pretty white, more white than cream. This picture is from about three days ago. We are having a particularly un-sunny summer, however and most things appear to be behind-- my tomatoes are still green which is highly unusual this time of year.

Mine don't get super tall, but driving around town I have seen some that look to be taller than I am. That makes them at least 5 feet tall. They have a tendency to break off and fall over it seems.

definitely a yucca. probably angustifolia/glauca. i think they don't always flower and i too have noticed them flowering like crazy this year.

But simcan, why are the flowers spikey and not bell-shaped? When I google yucca glauca angustifolia all I see are the creamy bell shaped flowers.

Really pretty btw, Bluebird. I love this whatever it is, much more!

It is not necessarily Yucca glauca (AKA Yucca angustifolia), and I am certainly no expert on the different hardy Yucca species and cultivars. But I am quite sure it is a hardy Yucca and now that I did a little googling of my own I would lean toward Yucca filamentosa.

I am seeing more in bloom around here than in past years and think it is because of the constant rain we have had. I love them but they tend to take over a space.

Another view.

If anyone is considering planting Yucca, make sure you choose your spot carefully, because once you plant one you will never get rid of it. The roots are huge, tenacious and resilient. And the plants don't react much to chemicals. Just be forewarned.
