speedwell sunny border blue question

I had 7 plants that I yanked out this spring as 5 of them did not come back and the other 2 only put up 1 skimpy stem on each one. I loved the color and the sometimes re-bloom however they tended to die at the bottom and sometimes the flower was weird, it would split in 1/2. I replaced it with agastache blue fortune which does well but the color is paler than what I would like. I don't think I will move them but .... It is worth trying SBB again? I am also considering Hoary Vervain, considered a native and does terrific in my native garden. I am trying to get something with height and HV is about 3'. Its would go in a hot sunny location. Is SBB short lived? Do you have sucess or not so much? Any thoughts?
