No Japanese beetles this year...

At least in my area. I'm in northern Illinois, btw. I guess the drought we had last year really lowered their numbers. I'm thrilled that my honeycrisp apples will not be consumed this year (at least by them), but at the same time it saddens me because other insects are also very few this year. I have seen almost no butterflies (or their caterpillars) and so now I'm wondering if the drought affected them as well. I feel like whenever I catch a break with mother nature she always has something negative to throw at you as well.
