At least in my area. I'm in northern Illinois, btw. I guess the drought we had last year really lowered their numbers. I'm thrilled that my honeycrisp apples will not be consumed this year (at least by them), but at the same time it saddens me because other insects are also very few this year. I have seen almost no butterflies (or their caterpillars) and so now I'm wondering if the drought affected them as well. I feel like whenever I catch a break with mother nature she always has something negative to throw at you as well.

Don't even SAY that! You'll jinx us! I saw a couple of them on 4th of July when I was showing my garden, but haven't seen any since - although I really haven't been looking, haven't been out there much. They should arrive in droves any day now, definitely by end of July. UGH!

I've only seen one so far, and that was a few weeks ago. When I lived in Ohio it was rare to see any where I lived. I know they are quite prevalent up here in Michigan, but so far just the one. Hopefully won't see anymore than that. Karen

I'm in NW Illinois and ours arrived on July 5th and we sprayed with Bug Stop. One application seems to have done it. I see a few here and there, but only a few. As far as other bugs go, we have plenty and we have more large bumblebees than I have ever seen. Also, the mosquitoes came in full force just in time for our huge family 4th of July get together. It was so pleasant last year without them.

Thats because their at my place! I'm also in northern Illinois. Actually not to bad yet (knock on wood, fingers crossed, ect.) just enough to mess up the roses. Hope they leave soon.

North Chicago suburbs. I've seen a few. They are late: they normally arrive with the flowering of my persicaria polymorpha, which becomes a plant full of bugs normally. I've had lots of dragonflies, some butterflies, and a good assortment of bees ( several kinds).
