Maybe it's just the female...? Like with most birds, female hummers are less colourful.

What a photo! Love the bird, of course, but all the plants look perfectly situated. That cactus is downright meaty!

I second the suggestion that it may be a female or a young one.

I bet you can google up some hummingbird ID pics for your area. Thanks for sharing. Hummingbirds are such a treat!

Delighted to see your hummingbird photo. Sighting a hummer is always a special moment for me. They are very territorial in my yard and we seldom see more than a couple at a time.

OMG that indigo one is like some sort of fantasy bird! Imagine if you looked up and saw that one day while out weeding?

RE: Hummingbird

If you have a bird to ID, go to the bird forum. Post your pic and the wonderful folks over there will help you out. Just following that forum will save lots of time as you are more likely see posted photos of birds that are more likely seen. Every newbie thinks they are seeing something rare. Books can be tough to sort through but are still nice to have around. It is a knowledgeable group over there.

I think you are doing a great job getting some pics! I caught these two the other day, they didn't see each other at first. Is the standing cypress Ipomopsis rubra?
