| Hello! this is my first post in this forum- I have bought this potted gerbera plant a few months ago and within a few weeks it has lost all of its blooms . As you can see from the image, a few new leaves have come out from the crown but they don't look right to me as they all have ridiculously long stems !! Old leaves have wilted and they do not stand upright. What is causing the leaves growing so tall and what do I have to do make it blooming again? your help would be highly appreciated! |

| its a garden plant.. not a houseplant.. as noted above.. its not getting enough sunlight ... but if you throw it out in the sun.. it will burn ... out to bright shade.. then harden it off to sun ... then in the ground for this fall... for winter.. also.. probably too wet.. you water when it needs it.. not on some schedule... ken |

| I don't know if it's a garden plant in the area of NZ where the OP is. In the UK they are basically greenhouse forced, temporary, indoor decoration which always croak in due course. A bit like Christmas pontsettias. If it is hardy in your area it needs to go outside. |

| Welcome Andrew, I think Gerbera daisy will do OK in NZ in the garden. If you would edit your name where it now says none, to indicate your gardening zone, the answers to your posts would be more on target. We look forward to your participation. Al |

| Thank you for your warm responses. It is winter over here in New Zealand and we hardly see the sun during the day as it is constantly wet. But whenever there's a chance, I leave the plant outside during the day to get more sun light and the new leaves are noticeably darker than the old ones but not sure why the new stems are still long? When I bought this plant, I was told this is an indoor plant but considering all your responses, maybe I need to plant it in my garden. Thank you Al, I have now updated my gardening zone! |

| I'll ditto Dee's welcome even though I don't grow what are annuals here in my colder (than your's) zone. Here Gerbera daisies are (I believe) also called African daisies which means they're not perennials here in the colder climate zones. They're colorful and attractive--I'd love to have them year-round but when the snow falls, they disappear beneath it, never to return the following season. I would agree with echinaceamaniac that it needs more light but it may also be growing where it gets too much moisture. Where I am there's generally sufficient rainfall each season that supplemental watering isn't necessary. |
