Hello, I bought this at Home Depot, with a tag that just said "Shade Perennial." I asked the cashier if he could identify it, but the computer system scanned it as just "Shade Perennial." I decided to go with this mystery plant because it looked healthy and was the right size, and well it's a bit late in the year and the pickings were slim. The tag says it is a spring and fall bloomer, though at the moment it is just green. And it should get 2 feet high. I'm hoping someone will recognize it. Thanks for the help!

So far it looks like a Solidago to me, and if it is so, I would not plant it in shade.

Yes, that's a Solidago or Goldenrod. Some - and I emphasize some - do grow in shadier locations, but don't count on this being one of them. Full sun unless it croaks in full sun, which I doubt it will. Kevin

Hello, thanks for the answers! It's now blooming with small yellow flowers, and seems to be doing ok in the spot that I placed it on our porch. We'll see if it does ok there long term.

I have solidago 'Fireworks' growing in mid-afternoon shade. It stays shorter than those in full sun but blooms well. This is not a spring bloomer. It blooms in the fall, September/October for me. Keep in mind that store plants are often forced into early bloom.
