What Heucherellas have you grown?

| We talk about Heucheras quite often, but I don't think we have talked about Heucherella on their own before. What ones have you grown?
My first was a gold leafed one. I think it was 'Stoplight', or maybe it was 'Solar something or other'. Can't quite remember now, lol! While very pretty, it was such a slow grower and was so small it hardly showed up at all. Five years later and it is still minute!
Last year in early summer I scored several huge pots of Heuchera and Heucherella at Lowes for $3 each. The Heuchera ('Tiramisu' and 'Miracle') have been duds, but the Heucherella have done surprisingly well. Both 'Alabama Sunrise' and 'Kimono' made it thru the winter fine and didn't seem to dwindle in size at all. Both are still robust looking and don't seem to mind the dry-ish position I planted them in.
This spring I got 'Sweet Tea'. It was somewhat small when I got it, but has managed to nearly double in size since planting it. I can't wait to see if it comes back strong next year.
So what Heucherella have you grown and liked? Any duds?
Not sure if anyone is interested, but I found this interesting page on the history of Heucherella: HERE. I never knew they had been around for so long!

The heucherella that has done the best for me is Brass Lanterns. The thing grew big, fast. I like its color better than Sweet Tea, which I also have and has grown well. I think that one just doesn't grow as big as BL by nature. I have Gunsmoke, which hasn't done much, but it was in a bad spot and something chewed up its leaves, so now maybe it'll do better in its new spot. I got Berry Fizz this year. Hopefully it'll color up better next year, so far not very impressed. It may be one of those that looks good in the spring then mediocre in summer; it has lost it's fizz. Solar Power is also a new one for me and seems to be holding its color well, but it does get a few hours of sun too, which may help. It has grown well in size too. I think those are it for the heucherellas that I have. Karen

I have 'Alabama Sunrise', too, and it's been doing okay for three years now. It hasn't gotten much bigger, but hasn't died either! I tried a couple others over the years but can't remember the names. I mostly stick with heuchera now, as I don't have much luck with tiarella, either.

I have Stoplight. It does just fine for me, but it's the only one I' ever tried.

I only have Quicksilver, and I LOVE LOVE LOVE it. The only problem was that I planted some sweet woodruff next to it last year, and this year it was completely surrounded by it and didn't really look that good. It will be moved though, probably closer to my porch so I can see it more.

I have Alabama Sunrise, Sweet Tea, and Tapestry. All three have been very strong performers, but my favorite is Tapestry because of the leaf shape--very deep lobed--and the coloration.

Stoplight is a dud for me. The coloration disappeared almost immediately, and the plants stayed small and petered out quickly. I tried Tapestry last fall, one died, one survived, but has had no more than 3 (very pretty) leaves all this year. Got 2 last fall with similar coloration to Stoplight, called "Strike it Rich", but an interesting leaf shape. Nice golden color, but supposed red vein never appeared. Started well this year, but both are petering out now, and I doubt they'll make it. I might try moving them, but once something starts declining for me, it usually can't be saved.

-linnea, now you mentioned it I remember my plant was actually 'Strike it Rich', not 'Stoplight'. It looks a little better and maybe bigger in the new spot I put it. Fifth years the charm??! Lol. It will shock me if this plant starts taking off now after doing nothing for so long! Has anyone tried the new trailing 'Yellowstone Falls' or 'Redstone Falls'? Those look pretty neat. They say you can grow them in hanging baskets, pots, etc. CMK

So how did the heucherellas make it through the winter. Do they heave out of the ground like heuchera?

Oh man I thought it was just me - I have two TINY huecherellas that have barely lived through two years. I transplanted them to get moderate (more) sun, and we'll see this year. They are lime/yellow edged, with apricot fade and rosy centers. Somewhat like the one in the link but not nearly as scalloped leaves. I was curious about the difference between Heuchera and Heucherella, so I googled it and now know that "ella" is a cross between Heuchera and Tiarella. Anyway, I think mine was lemon or lime something. TINY and struggling, but hoping it will do better with more sun.

| Well, I'll let my pictures do the talking: Gunsmoke--improved greatly after I moved it from underneath a dogwood tree to a new bed free of tree roots
Sweet Tea--gets bigger and better every year
Brass Lanterns--need I say anything?
Solar Power--new last year, growing well this year

Shoutout to Redstone Falls. Survived a very little snow here in Zon 3/4. Doing nicely.
