| I'm looking for a perennial that blooms around the time of coneflowers. Long blooming would be a bonus. Part to full sun. 24" to 30" Max height. Full. Needs to screen plant that is ugly at this time of year. Coneflowers would probably be a good idea, but am looking for something different (I have coneflowers coming out of my ears already). Considered Agastache, but seems too high. Preference in color is pretty much anything but pink. Needs yellow or white with purple and then red in order of preference. Thoughts or suggestions? Thank you! |

| Heliopsis 'Loraine Sunshine' is listed as 30" but I have never grown it. The variegated leaves look enticing. There is always Rudbeckia 'Goldsturm' too. |
Here is a link that might be useful: Loraine Sunshine
| Rudbeckia would be my suggestion too. Personally, I favor 'Indian Summer,' but there are many options. |
| It is hard not to like 'Loraine Sunshine'. I have had several, but *for me*, much more often than not, sometime in August it is covered in aphids. |
| It would go in front of one of my favorite rose bushes. I am currently no-spray and it gets BS and defoliates a bit. Looking for something to cover that up somewhat. I shy away from the Rudbeckia for the same reason I'd avoid cone flowers. I've got quite a few already. Heliopsis is something to consider, though. |

| I am no rose expert, but I do know that black spot is often best controlled not by fungal sprays but by pruning to improve air circulation and avoiding overhead watering. Also, baking soda and water is supposedly effective. |
| well, the hardy geraniums are classic in front of roses. I have a rather lovely polemonium, Lambrooke Mauve which, being sterile, flowers throughout the season. Then there are smaller phlox such as P.carolina or even P.maculata and even asters may well do the trick. |
