 o
Anemone 'Honorine Jobert' vs. 'Andrea Atkinson'?

Another Japanese anemone question for all of you. What is the difference between 'Honorine Jobert' and 'Andrea Atkinson'? I have read the Chicago Botanic Garden evaluation, but every photo I have seen of these two cultivars looks exactly the same. A lot of conflicting information can be found about both of them regarding height, bloom times and hardiness.

In spite of all of this, some sources say 'Honorine Jobert' is the superior cultivar while others say 'Andrea Atkinson' is the best white. Could it be a case of two different names for the same plant?

Thank you in advance for any insight on this matter,
Ispahan

I think the flowers are supposed to be slightly larger on 'Andrea' and it may be a bit shorter to reduce the need for staking.

My opinion is that 'Honorine Jobert' has survived as long as it has for a reason -- it is probably the best Japanese Anemone available and definitely the best white one. Armitage claims that 'Honorine Jobert' may be the same as 'Alba' but 'Andrea Atkinson' is a distinct cultivar as far as I know.

You *cannot* go wrong with Honorine Jobert. She has been in cultivation for a hundred-something years for a REASON - she is spectacular in full bloom, the cleanest, brightest white you may ever see, and she's a tough ol' bird. Get her. Period.

Never ever needed to stake HJ. Totally fool proof and tough as old boots.

yep, another vote for HJ - a classic, imo.
