Divide Astilbe now?

So I've been doing my end of season plant shopping at Lowes. I know, I know; but I get so jazzed. Today I picked up a large astilbe for 3 dollars. Its in very good condition; one or two brown leaves that I popped off. Can I divide it 2 when I'm ready to plant? Its still a bit hot here so I'm going to put in the shade and water until late Sept when I'm ready to plant. Thanks in advance for your help.

I always divide my astile in August and it works very well. By next spring, you will never know they were divided. Because you're in a warmer zone than me, Sept might be better for you.

Astilbe seem to be one of those perennials that need division frequently to keep them blooming well. At least that's been my experience. I try to do it every 3 years or so.
