 o
dwarf Perovskias- your experiences please

So I would like to hear which varieties of dwarf Russian Sage you guys grow and what you think of them. Are the sizes accurate to the tag description, or bigger?

I've been thinking about getting one- which one depends on what the REAL ultimate size of them will get ;-)

There is the older 'Little Spire', which I seem to recall reading gets a lot bigger than stated. Like 3-4ft around kind of big.

I remember Echinaceamaniac mentioning a cultivar called 'Lacey Blue', which sounds intriguing.

A local plant sale is offering a new dwarf cultivar (an improvement of 'Little Spire'), called 'Peek-a-Blue'. Supposed to be 1-3ft tall and 2-3ft wide.

Would love to hear what you guys think of any of these...or any other compact Perovskias out there. Pics welcome. ;-)

I tried Perovskia Sextant twice, it was supposed to go up to 70 cm , which is more useful hight than 140 cm of the "normal one". It died both times here, reason??? I do not cry though since I've learned they have a running habit. I already have Campanula rapunculoides and Adenophora of some sort(even worse) to fight with, which is enough for me.

I wouldn't call 'Little Spires' dwarf, but it doesn't sucker--a big plus for me.

I can't rember which one I had, but it spread underground so I ended up yanking it - and am still yanking bits that reappear!

I guess it must depend a lot on soil...how much it runs I mean. I had the large variety for a long time, and while it did send out runners, they were usually fairly close to the mother plant.

-laceyvail, so how big ultimately is/was your 'Little Spire'?
