That westerplatte clematis that I didn't like is history! I talked with the man that does the pruning and mulching for us yesterday and he said it should be pretty easy to dig up and I had planned that when he came here to work again, I was going to get rid of it. He called last evening and said he could get to us this afternoon, which I was elated. This morning when I got up, there was a delightful breeze, hardly any humidity, so I decided to get my digging fork out and try to make myself proud by digging out that clematis. Since it was only 4 yrs. old, I figured the roots wouldn't be too inter-twined like the Comtesse de Bouchard that I had to dig up that was over 30 yrs.old. Westerplatte was up in about 15 min. or less. Next went one dead azalea..He said he has seen a lot of dead azaleas from all the hot weather . I cut back one of my taller coneflowers where all the flowers were beginning to fade and looking shabby. There were a few dried pods too. By cutting that tall coneflower back, it gave a garden phlox behind it more sunlight. I put a plant ring around the garden phlox for it to grow through for support.

I felt so good about getting that accomplished without it being so humid. Yesterday was unbearable. He dug up a very mature forsythia bush for me, sprayed my rose bushes for blackspot and fed them Bayer Systemic granules, and sprayed malathion on the two azalea bushes that have lacewing and pruned two other forsythia bushes that needed it.

It felt good to get all of that accomplished. Oh yeh, I forgot he edged the back flower beds as they do not have scalloped bricks or landscape timbers around them. That ground was so hard, lack of rain.

Don't be surprised if that clematis comes back next year. Sometimes a bit of root is left behind and the clematis regrows from that bit. I've had that happen even when I thought I had gotten all the root.

I have never met anybody who did not like Westerplatte clematis, as it is one of the best. You've probably had an imposter.
