defining shade is impossible .. in words alone..

let alone with no other facts .....

anything less than an all green leaf.. means the leaf itself is not able to feed the tree thru photosynthesis ... so the more shade.. the bigger the problems ...

can you not define any sun at all???'

It's dappled sun -- with a few breaks of direct sun. And your input on photosynthesis is much appreciated. Learn something new every day as a new gardner. Fun stuff.

Dappled shade is ideal for virtually any variegated plant. While the lack of chlorophyl in the variegation can impede photosynthesis (this is why most highly variegated plants grow slower and smaller than their all green counterparts), it can also encourages scorching in full sun, depending on the specific plant. Morning sun and afternoon shade (protection from hot afternoon sun) or dappled or filtered shade are all great positions for any variegated plants :-)

Fantastic! I have two areas that might work. Decisions, decisions. As I get all these plants in the ground, the gardens are feeling smaller and smaller. And it is making me far more particular about what goes in. But Wolf Eyes looks like a real beauty.

I have a Hedgerow Gold in such a location and it is spectacular, lights up the area in the summer and beautiful structure after leaf drop. Al
