Problems with aster

First, forgive me--I don't know the species of the aster that I have. I know that it's supposed to be a bluish color, but it's more of a light purple (soil conditions, I presume). Also, I am not home to take a picture.
I've had this plant for roughly 4 years. It is planted on the south side of the house, full sun and hot conditions trending towards dry moisture levels.
It does grow, but it just doesn't do well. In fact, it looks kind of anemic. The stems and foliage are not terribly robust, though it does reach about 2' in height. The flowers are kind of sparse as well. It has never looked great, to be honest.

I noticed last night that the leaves have gigantic pale yellow spots all over them, so I am assuming it has some kind of disease.

Does this sound familiar to anyone? I have no idea if I should attempt to treat the plant, or if should just yank it.

Suggestions? Thank you!
