It's very common for seedlings to be different. That is beautiful though!

They're both beautiful. It will be interesting to see if the baby has any of the growth characteristics of the momma. I love the Mammoth mum series! I have both the red and coral and they have been outstanding for me. Next year I'm adding more for sure.

Now I wish I hadn't pulled out all those mum seedlings I found this past spring. Rats!

They get huge fast! It must be the perspective but that Coral one shown above is almost 4' wide.

Yes in my experience seedlings can have a lot of genetic variation - just like kids can from their parents and siblings. It makes things interesting, although if you're looking for more uniformity then clones work better.
