Spacing Dicentra Alba/Brunnera Jack Frost

I'm new to gardening and have received much help here already. I've just bought some of my first plants for my part-shade/shade garden - 5 Dicentra alba and 3 jack frost Brunnera. I want a full look. Can you recommend spacing? Spacing between each Dicentra alba? And Spacing between Dicentra alba and Brunnera? And any help generally on spacing to get a full look would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

what does a day squid do at night ... octopus up???

do you have somewhat mature plants in hand.. i cant believe you have babes ... this time of year ...

if so.. presume they will be about the same size next year .. maybe a bit bigger ... and plant them however it is pleasing to your eye ...

and if it doesnt work out.. move them next fall ...

the biggest lesson a newbie can learn.. is that a garden is not really a plant and forget system .. it is not static ... and they often lose focus on reality.. by focusing on perfect INITIAL placement ...

remove from pot.. insert roots down .. water properly .. and if you dont like the placement next season.. move them elsewhere..

that is how your thumbs get green ... or.. actually.. brown ... from playing in the soil ...

you should be able to easily google IMAGES of the plants.. and get ideas for spacing ... and how size relates to what is in your hands .... i will do the first one for you.. see link ...

ken

Here is a link that might be useful: scrolling down the pix.. looking for individual plants.. i would suggest 12 to 18 inches.. for spacing.. but if you want crowded.. go for 8 to 12 ....

Daysquid researches plants all night. A girl has to know what she likes. It would be nice to have the arms of an Octupus for all the planting I have ahead of me.

And Ken, thanks for your approach on spacing. I've seen everything from 12" to 30" but looking at pictures and making a judgement call seems entirely more practical.

I also appreciate the advice to just start diggin' and relax. Thanks again.

Which Dicentra alba? Dicentra spectabilis alba is the larger one and will die back in late summer, so you might want something next to it that will fill in around it or plan to plop down a pot of something if you want a full look. Dicentra eximia alba is shorter and has fernier leaves and won't die back.

Oh darn. I thought it was Dicentra eximia alba but it is Dicentra spectabilis alba. I'm going to take it back to the garden center. Ugh. Can you recommend a place I can order Dicentra eximia alba. And again, any help you can give on spacing is much appreciated.
