Coneflower, Gray-Headed - Ratibida pinnata I have about a dozen plants I'd like to move to a new location. I'm about 4-5 weeks away from frost, based on my journal. When is a good time to move these guys? Thanks. Charles

dig approximate new hole.. dig plant.. hoik to new hole.. insert ... frost is irrelevant ... you move things dormant... or close to dormant ... so just go for it ... the only reason to stop.. would be ground freeze if your soil does that ... as.. again.. the plant is dormant.. and wont know ... but for figuring out how to dig in frozen soil... this has nothing to do with your specific plant ... ove anything you wnat in the next month or so .... you will be responsible for all water.. next year ... good .. deep.. infrequent watering ... especially in drought... none of this spraying down the leaves... and you cant lose ... a good mulch next summer to keep the soil cooler in the heat of such.. wouldnt hurt ... ken

Thanks. Just checking. I do find perennials where they say do it in the spring.
|
Those are typically the heat lovers, like mallows where they're late to break dormancy anyway (the ones recommended to move in spring)...but I think that advise is mainly for northerners where things are less hardy.
