I only grow Agastache foeniculum âÂÂGolden Jubileeâ but it's not only reliably hardy where I am, it generously self-seeds in my garden beds. The Missouri Botanical Garden lists 'Blue Fortune' as hardy to Z5 and I find the information at their website to be pretty accurate (see link).

Agastache is in the mint family, as is Monarda/bee balm. Feel the stems--they're square. Mint is generally considered a pretty tough perennial.

Well, being in the mint family is not the same thing as being a mint. Just for one example, mints are aggressive spreaders. Agastache 'Blue Fortune' is a short lived perennial even in zone 6, and the western Agastaches often don't survive wet eastern winters, even in zone 6.

at this point, i don't know which cultivar i have, but my guess would be blue fortune. It seeds itself all over and has been deliriously happy here for some 15 years.
I had not heard about it being short lived, but laceyvail is a very knowledgeable gardener.
If you don't grow it, i would say'take the plunge' and you may just be thrilled. It certainly is extremely valuable as a LONG blooming blue/ppl partner to other colors.

'Blue Fortune' did well here for several years, then gradually declined and ultimately died out.

I might still grow it again, taking cuttings periodically to assure vigorous young plants.

I put in Blue Fortune for a client some 5 or so years ago, and it has thrived here in NW suburbs of Chicago. We dug out about half of it last year, as it was taking over it's corner of the garden.

Thanks to all for you input. I'll give it a try and periodically make cuttings to keep it going.

I bought BF earlier this spring on a whim...never having had an agastache in our garden. But with no full sun location I plopped it in a container. It it doing fine but I think it will likely be an annual for us.
