I have two of these I need to move ASAP. I've read differing views on when and how (and if at all) I should transplant these. Anybody have any advise?!
If you have to move them, you have to move them. Have the new spot prepared before you dig them up and plant them immediately. Water them in, give them some mulch for the winter, and hope for the best. Good luck with it; euphorbia are tougher than they look.
Thank you! Your "hope for the best" makes me a little nervous but I'll do just that. Ones has to move from the back yard to the front otherwise the dogs will trample it. Its been fine this summer but it sprung up before I had the fence put in (late spring) so they weren't running all over the place. I have a feeling next year it wont make it. I'll give a go and "hope for the best"
I just meant that all gardeners are at the mercy of the weather - will we have a dry winter, a cold winter, hail every week - not that your plants are in any dire peril. Sorry!
If you left chameleon go to seed were it is planted now, don't worry about it not making it through the winter. There will no doubt be plenty of babies next spring to move to where you want them. It is a thug in my flower beds. Keeps showing up in the darndest places even after 9 years.
Do you have any seed heads left on the plants? Crumble those over the new site when you put the plants in, chances are you will have plenty of seedlings next Spring.
A known plantsman said in one of his lectures - Our nursery no longer ships these, we just tell them the address where they are to go and they find their way there.
Prolific self sower in my garden, and I usually pull the seedlings as the plants develop powdery mildew in my climate...they just keep coming when I haven't grown it intentionally in many years.
If your plants don't make it, look for seedlings where you had originally planted it in Spring, move those while small.
Thanks for the advise everyone! Sorry for the delay in response! I could not move them the other day when I wanted (there is not enough time in the day) but hope to this weekend. Fingers crossed!
