I planted these from some peat pots I'd planted myself. Unfortunately, I lost the tag, and have no idea what it might be. I keep waiting for the flowers to open up, but it just keeps getting taller and taller--up to 10 feet now, with lots of buds, but no blossoms.

Hibiscus moschetos ? A closeup of the buds, if you can get a shot, would be helpful.

How about getting some light on the plant. I can hardly tell where it is.

Are you sure this is the plant you planted? It reminds me an awful lot of a giant weed I get in my yard. I don't know what it is, but it has similar leaves and grows very, very tall. I've never seen it bloom. Can you get some close-up photos of the buds and leaves? It does look somewhat like tithonia, but I think if it were it would have bloomed by now. Dee

Yes, I think dem pa was right. I'm pretty sure it's a Mexican Sunflower. One of the blossoms finally bloomed today. And, I have an empty seed packet in my seed packet storage. But, WHY die it take so long to bloom, and WHY is it 10 feet tall. The package says 4-6 feet. I started the seeds indoors in early April and planted them out just past the frost date. I don't get it. Any suggestions? |

Looks like tithonia to me too. I planted it from seed around June 1, and it started blooming around Labor Day, and is about 4 feet tall. It is still covered with flowers, but I think yesterday's snow will kill it.
