| Have you found any end of season sales. I have picked up some great buys.
All these cost me 25.00 total. I am very proud of the 100.00 Blue Spruce that I got for 10.00. It is 5' tall balled plant.
Here is the group. In this group 9 plants are....
2 Silver Sword Azeleas.....Variegated leave and pink flowers. It is going to beautiful in the Spring.
Clematis Blood red flowers a early Summer to Fall Bloomer
The Blue Spruce posted above
2 Yews
1 Coral Bell
Variegated Hydrangea
Snowball Bush
Variegated Willow
These I picked up at my local nursery for 5.00 each. They are Yucca Color Guard and a annual plant Lantana, yellow blooms. It was really pretty when the yellow Lantanas were blooming to compliment the yellow in the Yucca. I always wanted this Yucca and brought one on line it was so small for 20.00 it died. These pots were 30.00 each in the beginning of the season so for 5.00 I got two good pots and two Yuccas.

| Sure have--picked up two gallon-size pots of hardy geranium 'Biokovo' for $1 each (marked down from $6.99) at the hardware store last month. Also placed an order from Santa Rosa Gardens' 75% off sale: 4 - Stachys 'Helen von Stein' Autumn Fern Japanese Painted Fern Gaura 'Crimson Butterflies' Hellebore/Lenten rose 'Sandra' Lobelia/cardinal flower Lobelia 'Fan Blue' Monarda/bee balm Woodland phlox Jacob's ladder 'Touch of Class' 2 - Scabiosa/pincushion flower 'Pink Mist' They're all planted in the ground too! I have lots of winter sown perennials in pots I'll be bringing inside the garage for the winter once they go dormant but I wanted the nursery-grown stock in the ground right away so they can establish their root systems before the ground freezes. There isn't even a frost in the 7-day forecast so they should have plenty of time to acclimate.

This makes me want to go and hit up the nurseries in town to find some more sale racks, lol!!! -marquest, ooooo! I am envious of your 'Color Guard' Yucca. I'm going to have to get one of those.... A couple weeks ago I went to one of the better nurseries in town and found a couple of things. Helenium 'Rubenzwerg' for $5, and a little start of Coreopsis 'Cosmic Eye' (Big Bang Series) for $2. Later at Lowes I found the same Coreopsis (a MUCH bigger plant) for $3, LOL! It was regular price and not a sale rack score, but I also picked up a 'Fubuki' Hakonechola at the nursery too. It very well could have been taken as clearance with that kind of price though!! I saw the exact same one at another nursery for almost $15 and in worse condition! CMK

I have 24 plants from the Santa Rosa sale - I didn't even know they were having a sale until one of the enablers I mean contributors on this site mentioned it. I got a 5 gal russian sage for $3 and a big Salvia for $2 at Lowes. The plants from Santa Rosa are still sitting on the porch and I can't believe how they've grown while still sitting in their little 4 inch pots. Tomorrow they go into the ground. And still have the replacement plants I got from Bluestone to plant.

Just went out this morning to one of the nice nurseries and picked up three large roses--William Baffin, osoeasy paprika, wildberry breeze, all at least 70% off. Also hit up Home Depot for some nice, fresh $3 Japanese anemones et al. But I'm trying to control myself this year.

Nice hauls, everybody! Dirtdiver: Wildberry Breeze is a fantastic rugosa - hands down the most floriferous rugosa I have. Takes a break in high summer, like all rugosas, but picks up again and blooms all through fall. :0)

My SRG perennials haven't even been in the ground a full week and they are really taking off! I'm SO glad I went ahead and ordered from them. I placed a small order back in the spring which is why I got the email notification of the fall 75% off sale. I shouldn't have even looked but when I caved in, I purposely bought plants that don't produce seed/can't be winter sown or that I thought would either be difficult to grow from seed or else take too long to mature & bloom (i.e., hellebore). The variegated Jacob's Ladder 'Touch of Class' is planted right next to my hosta with the same name! I got the hosta in a trade from just1morehosta/cAROL. Hakonechloa has been on my 'Want' list for several years but I've yet to find it at a reasonable price no matter what time of year I look for it. It wasn't on sale from SRG or I'd have added it to my order. It was sold out at an 'end of season' sale I went to locally. Hazzard's doesn't sell seeds which leads me to think it has to be propagated vegetatively.

-gardenweed, you are right that Hakonechloa is mainly propagated vegatatively, at least the cultivars anyway. Not sure if the plain green leaf species is grown much by seed or not. As a matter of fact, I don't think I have seen but one 'plume' on my Hakonechloa 'Aureola' in the six or seven years I have had it. They are very slow to bulk up by nature too, which probably is the reason they are often so $$ to buy a pot of. I got that 'Touch of Class' Polemonium last year (at Wal-Mart no less!) and am very pleased with it. Love the airy mound it creates- rather reminds me of baby's breath in a way... CMK

mxk3--Thanks for the tips on Wildberry Breeze. Now I'm looking forward to it even more. Already, I can tell it has beautiful hips. Wish I'd find a bargain hakonechloa! Killed one once and have never been able to being myself to pay full price again. Maybe I need to visit the nursery where I saw it this year...

Oh, yea - how can I forgot about this lush red hips! ;o)

Somebody here posted about the SRG sale about a month ago, and of course I had to go look and ended up with a $40 order. Now it appears they are having a clearance sale. I bought that Polemonium 'Touch of Class' too! What a pretty plant, very healthy. Their plants were in really good shape overall. I wasn't that thrilled with the packaging - those plastic nettings are not biodegradable and what is the point of those anyway - the plants are wrapped in paper. And I bought some "bargain bench" Panicum 'Dallas Blues' which are so TINY they may not make it over the winter - probably not the best time of year to buy teeny weeny warm-season grasses.

Also know that the big box stores actually purchase their bulbs up front.. so if they don't sell by end of the season.. the just pitch them. SO usually once they go on sale, you can ask the garden manager if they will take even more off then what is marked. And of course if you buy a few, they will be more willing to bend. Last year i was able to get a ton of allium for $1 per package. So it works differently than the live plants that are all priced by the outside nurseries.

From Home Depot got 3 Hakonechloa 'Aureola' and several heuchera in gal pots for $3 each. At a local nursery got a pink tree peony for $7.99. Couldn't pass it up as know I wouldn't pay the regular $35 for it.
