Chelone obliqua grows much more aggressively, here, than Chelone lyonii 'Hot Lips'.

If the seed pods were found on the ground, have you checked to see if they are intact, have not dispersed their seeds already? Mine ripen so late here, I need to bag the heads if I want the seeds or they are lost to the first Fall storm. Like this weekend, and No, I hadn't bagged any this year, hadn't even thought of them until seeing this :)

They are a great plant for Fall interest and color, and I'm not even that crazy about pink. Freshly harvested, often the seeds will germinate without any chill. Stored a while the seeds will probably benefit from about 4 weeks moist chill, making winter sowing easiest if you don't have a green house or light set-up inside.

Check your pods, do they contain these?

All I see is a dry seed pod with some fuzzy little things at the top that I assumed were the seeds. They don't look much like your picture.

OK, try this one, it depicts the pods, dry and beginning to open at the top, what they would look like ripe. The pod would contain the seeds, break one open and see if any are inside, many seeds to a pod.

Here is a very recent thread I started with a picture of my second year "Hot Lips". I checked today and it is still in flower. It is a great late summer and fall flowering plant....nice foliage as well, upright *and* it does it all in (much) less than full sun. What is there not to like about this plant??

It looks like I have empty seed pods, because there's nothing in there, just a few fuzzy things at the top that don't fit the description for seeds.
I imagine these are chelone obliqua. My SIL picked them up for me. So now that I know about them, I'll have to see if we can go back in the spring to see if we can find a seedling or two instead.
BTW, I'm not crazy about pink either, but I have few choices for fall perennials. I've tried cimicifuga, but though the plant survives the winter its buds always get frozen before having a chance to bloom.

If you can't find seedlings, they're very easy to root from cuttings.
