Chrysanthemum rooting in water only?

Hello dudes and gals ^_^

so lately, I have this Chrysanthemum plant which has grown 8inches tall so I gave it some pinching so it could branch out. I did this earlier this month and just kept the branches in a cup of water with a dying African Cape Daisy cutting. Not sure why I done this, but eventually, weeks later, the water was yellow and horrid and the and Cape daisy died so I was planning on throwing them all away, but before that, I cleaned the Chrysanthemum and what I found out was that one of the cutting has rooted!
It is still growing roots but whenever I search the net on how to root chrysanthemum cuttings, they give all these complex instructions like "Put it in moss, do this, do that or the cutting will rot!".
Is this normal? Or just by luck?
