First I was done...then I was not

I stopped at a nursery today to buy some houseplant systemic insecticide for all the plants I brought in to winter over. They were having an 80% off sale on perennials. Most of what was left were things I already have, or had gone totally dormant, so I could not judge. I talked to an employee, an older woman who was trimming the dead leaves off the hostas, and she assured me that of all they had left, the hostas were the most reliable to return. She said she has over 400 in her garden. It's a family run nursery, so maybe she is a member of the family.

So I walked out with 10 new hostas, most gallons, for no more than $ 3.40 each for the fancier ones, and $ 2 for the more ordinary ones. Hope she wasn't just "selling me a bill of goods" with regard to survival.

2 of each:
Regal Splendor : which I have but like
Gold Standard, ditto
Golden Tiara, ditto

The above will help me fill up some gaps. I had been toying with the idea of dividing the Golden Tiara I have to spread the love, but it took so long for this small leaved variety to look so full. Now I don't have to.

Hadspen Blue
The name of the remaining one I have blanked on. I am always looking for ones where the leaf center is white or cream, rather than the more common green edged with white. There was no picture, but the tag description said cream edges in green.

Then some tulips and daffodils for 30% off. Not that many (for me):40 mixed red tulips, including parrots and fringed types, and 18 miniature daffodils of a kind I have been looking for (Hawera).

Retail therapy... I should find a form of that that does not entail more work after the fact.

RE: First I was done...then I was not

I'm shade challenged with the way our home sits and I don't have areas for very many hosta. I just wanted to mention that I do have Hadspen Blue here. I even moved it here when we moved so that I could keep it. It's a lovely cool, blue color and does well for me even if it gets a bit of sun during part of the growing season.

Congratulations on your bargain finds!
Linda
